BioKum presents its research at GEWISOLA 2021

“Transformation processes in the agricultural and food system: challenges for economics and social sciences”- that was the title of this year’s annual conference of the Gesellschaft für Wirtschafts- und Sozialwissenschaften des Landbaus e.V. (https://www.gewisola.de/).

Under the title “Insects in the Bioeconomy: Acceptability of Using Insects for Livestock Feed in Europe”, Ingrid Bunker presented her analysis on the views, arguments and concerns towards the use of insects as livestock feed, based on feedback given by citzens and stakeholders across Europe. Based on a qualitative interview study, Jonathan Friedrich presented different “manure futures” and how they shape current social practices and sociomaterial structures. He concluded that the different imaginaries are potential barriers to the design of sustainable agriculture and therefore need to be moderated as drivers of change.

BioKum’s reserch was greeted with interest and questions from participants across different disciplines. And vice-versa, it was also a good opportunity to gain an insight into the exciting research of other institutions and projects in this field. GEWISOLA 2021 was organised by the Department of Agricultural Economics at Humbold University of Berlin and took place online from 22-24 September 2021.
